During Earth Month, we wanted to feature C.R. Marchant Middle School in Toronto, who used furniture donations from Green Standards to improve their learning spaces and classrooms. By donating office furniture, equipment and supplies to local schools we are not only keeping these bulky items out of the landfill, but we are supporting a circular economy that extends the lifecycle of these products, keeping them in use for community organizations that need them most.
C.R. Marchant Middle School is an inner-city school located at Lawrence and Weston Road, and was one of the first middle schools in Ontario. They were recipients of a donation from a sustainable decommission facilitated by Green Standards, which allowed them to reallocate resources to purchase technology for virtual learning during the pandemic.
When the pandemic hit, we opted to direct our resources to purchase technology for our students so that they could learn virtually when needed. This meant that we did not have funds to pay for other resources. Your donation was greatly appreciated and has served our students well. Our teachers use the mobile carts every day along with the white boards and flip charts to do their daily lessons. Our students use the coat hangers and cabinets to safely house their belongings. Thank you for your generous contributions to our school.”

About C.R. Marchant Middle School
C.R. Marchant was one of the first middle schools in Ontario and continues to demonstrate its commitment to their community. The school name honours the accountant who served for the Weston Board of Education when the school opened in 1948. The school is anchored in the old town of Weston and has a tradition of providing quality educational programs for its learners. The neighbourhood has evolved over the years and continues to grow in cultural diversity, now serving students and their families from many parts of the world as well as descendants of past Weston generations.
About Green Standards Ltd.
A Circular Economy-Inspired Office Solution
Millions of tons of office furniture and equipment are sent to landfill each year in North America. We’re here to change that. By working with forward-thinking corporations we’re able to recover usable resources and repurpose valuable products to the benefit of businesses, the environment and communities across North America.
Our sustainable decommission program has diverted 75,000+ tons of surplus furniture and equipment from landfill and donated more than $32 million worth of in-kind donations to 5,000+ non-profits across North America since inception.
The 75,000+ tons diverted equals more than 187,000 metric tons of CO2e emissions reduced with a 98.6% landfill diversion rate on more than 1,500 projects.
